Is the industry still underestimated?

2013 German Biotechnology Days in Stuttgart – controversial debate actively encouraged

BioRegio STERN Management GmbH is this year’s host of the major national forum for the German biotech industry. Over 600 entrepreneurs, researchers, politicians and investors will be debating the future of the German biotechnology sector at the German Biotechnology Days in Stuttgart on 14 and 15 May 2013.

Fritz Kuhn, the new Lord Mayor of Stuttgart, will be opening the event at the Haus der Wirtschaft and welcoming participants to this important forum for the German biotechnology industry in the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Dr. Nils Schmid, the Baden-Württemberg Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, will also be giving an address alongside the keynote speeches by representatives of leading pharmaceutical and medtech companies, such as the chairman of the Board of Managing Directors at Boehringer Ingelheim, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of B. Braun Melsungen and the chairman of the Executive Board at Ganymed Pharmaceuticals.

The highly anticipated controversial debates are expected first and foremost in the symposia, which will be attended by a number of eminent figures. They are intended to explore the opportunities opened up by regenerative medicine, how innovative medical products can be reimbursed in the future and what role biotechnology plays in environmental protection and sustainable business practices. Particular focus will be placed upon asking and answering the key questions: “How far should biotechnology be allowed to go?” and “Is the industry underestimated?”

Host Dr. Klaus Eichenberg, BioRegio STERN Managing Director, sets great store by a clear focus on particular topics: “The symposia will showcase state-of-the-art technologies such as cell-free production systems, virtual biology and innovative implants and sensors to entrepreneurs, researchers and politicians. However, we’re also keen to see a clear communication of viewpoints. After all, the German Biotechnology Days are the major opinion-forming platform for the industry.” That’s why informal breakfast sessions on various topics and, for the first time, an interactive World Café are also planned alongside the symposia.

On the evening of the first day of the congress, participants will be able to continue their discussions in the relaxed setting of the Porsche Museum when BioRegio STERN Management GmbH and BIO Deutschland e.V. in conjunction with BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH will be hosting a network evening.
