STEP4NAMs Partner Meeting in ’s-Hertogenbosch – Exchange, Strategy, and Joint Advancement of Innovative Testing Methods
On September 9 and 10, 2025, the project partner meeting of the Interreg NWE project STEP4NAMs took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel Central in ’s-Hertogenbosch. Representatives of the ten participating partner organizations came together to align on the next steps in STEP4NAMs and advance the core work packages.
Day 1 – Strategies and Pilot Studies
After a welcome by the lead partner BioRegio STERN and a joint lunch, the focus of the first afternoon was on Work Package 1. Here, the strategic foundations for the dissemination of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in the (Bio)Pharma and MedTech sectors were discussed. Topics included the analysis of existing framework conditions, the preparation and design of stakeholder interviews, and the further development of a communication and awareness campaign. In addition, the composition of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and other expert groups was discussed, which will provide the project with strategic advice and practice-oriented perspectives.
In the afternoon, the group turned to Work Package 2, which focuses on demonstrating the efficiency of NAMs through various pilot studies – ranging from the validation of digital twins and organ-on-chip models to innovative testing systems for neuro-thrombectomy technologies and Parkinson’s organoids.
After a group photo and the official conclusion of the workday, a joint evening program with dinner provided an opportunity for networking and informal exchange.
Day 2 – Training, Support, and Project Management
The second day began with the continuation of discussions on Work Package 2 before participants engaged in an in-depth focus on Work Package 3. This work package is dedicated to developing a comprehensive training and support program for NAM stakeholders, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Discussions included training measures, tailored support for SMEs, and the implementation of a competition-based approach to encourage the application of NAMs.
After a coffee break, the agenda continued with topics such as project management, communication, and further organizational issues. Another highlight was the planning of public events and the potential participation in the BioFIT conference in early December, where the next partner meeting is also scheduled to take place. With closing remarks from BioRegio STERN, the two-day partner meeting officially came to an end.
Conclusion
The meeting once again highlighted the diversity and dynamism of the STEP4NAMs consortium. Through intensive working sessions and stimulating discussions, important progress was made for the upcoming project phases – from strategy development and pilot validations to targeted stakeholder support.
