Clinical practice and research in the field of trauma surgery

In the field of trauma and reconstructive surgery, BG Klinik Tübingen is counted among the most renowned addresses in Germany, boasting a state-of-the-art centre for the surgical treatment of all types of injuries, including multiple traumas and severe burns. Besides trauma and reconstructive surgery as well as plastic, hand and tumour surgery, the hospital specialises in the treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries, knee and hip joint replacement, orthopaedic rehabilitation methods, oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as intensive care medicine and pain therapy. BG Klinik Tübingen treats roughly 10,000 inpatients and 45,000 outpatients annually. The surgical teams perform about 12,000 surgical procedures a year. It offers a comprehensive range of medical services to patients following occupational injuries as well as to members of statutory health insurance funds and self-pay patients.

BG Klinik Tübingen collaborates closely with the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and takes care of the treatment of patients as well as of research and teaching in the fields of trauma, plastic, hand and burn surgery.
In the field of research, BG Klinik Tübingen focuses mainly on autologous chondrocyte implantation, with the insights gained having already been integrated into clinical practice. In collaboration with the NMI, the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tübingen, the so-called ACI (Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) procedure is being improved with the goal of being able to treat degenerative cartilage defects.

BG Kliniken Ludwigshafen und Tübingen gGmbH belongs to “BG Kliniken – Klinikverbund der gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung gGmbH” [BG Hospitals – Hospital Group of the Statutory Accident Insurance] and is headquartered in Ludwigshafen. The BG Hospital Group is also the major shareholder of the hospital operator. Other shareholders include nine industrial institutions for statutory accident insurance and prevention as well as two public-sector accident insurance funds as providers of statutory accident insurance.
