info@genmedics.comwww.genmedics.comDR. PETRY genmedics GmbH focuses on research into the Staphylococcus organism. The biotechnology firm, which has bases in Reutlingen and Tübingen, is not only seeking to combat the disease pathogen but also use it as a carrier agent for various active agents.

The pathogen Staphylococcus epidermidis is capable of forming a biofilm on a range of surfaces. Thanks to its high levels of resistance to a wide range of antibiotics, pathogenic Staphylococci are becoming a major hazard in the field of medicine in the context of biofilm-related, foreign-body infections. It is for this area of activity that DR. PETRY genmedics offers an evaluation of materials for biofilm formation. As a result, new medical materials such as foreign-body implants can be checked for their biofilm formation properties.

In addition to working with pathogenic Staphylococci, the firm also focuses on the expression of therapeutically-effective proteins in the food-grade bacterium S. carnosus.

info@immatics.comwww.immatics.comimmatics is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of innova¬tive cancer immunotherapeutics.
immatics' proprietary technology for the identification of tumor-associated pep¬tides (TUMAPs) enables the development of novel anti-cancer vaccines for multiple cancer indications. immatics is currently developing two multi-TUMAP products in clinical phase II studies – IMA901 for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and IMA910 for the treatment of colorectal carcinoma (CRC). Further product candi¬dates are currently in pre-clinical de¬velopment.

With its unique proprietary XPRESIDENT™ discovery platform, immatics is constantly identifying very large numbers of naturally-presented tumor-associated peptides (TUMAPs) directly from primary tumor tissue. Since 2004 alone, the company has identified more than 50,000 TUMAP sequences and has secured the IP rights for those with high potential for use in cancer therapy.
immatics identifies TUMAPs which occur as natural ligands of HLA class I and II-receptors. These TUMAPs can activate cyto¬toxic T cells and T helper cells, key players of the cellular immune response, which have the ability to eradicate cancer cells once they are primed effectively.
TUMAPs are short peptides which are excellent drug candidates. They can be syn¬thesized and characterized by established, robust and fully scalable chemistry.

info@flyion.comwww.flyion.comflyion GmbH was founded by Dr. Albrecht Lepple-Wienhues and Dr. Klaus Ferlinz in 2001 as a spin-off of the University of Tübingen (Institute of Physiology). The founders were supported by i.con.innovation.

In 1991, Erwin Neher and Bert Sakmann won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their groundbreaking study of ion channels. In its conventional form, the patch clamp process that they developed is extremely labour intensive and demands a high degree of manual dexterity in order to yield reliable results. flyion has simplified this procedure with its patented Flip-the-Tip™ technology, which is ideally suited for automation.

The company offers a range of products based on this technology:
· The Flyscreen® 8500 is a patch clamp robot that performs high-quality ion channel screenings automatically. Several compounds can be tested one after the other.
· The PatchBox™ is a cost-effective plug&play workstation tool that can be combined with existing amplifiers, pullers and software. It is simple to operate and delivers a high success rate in the automatic formation of gigaseals and whole-cell configurations in a standard patch pipette.
· The ChipTip™ recording tips for the Flyscreen® 8500 consist of a glass pipette in a plastic casing. They ensure high success rates and allow extremely fast solution exchange within the pipette while keeping volumes to an absolute minimum for the study of the fastest ligand-dependent ion channels.
· The Feedback Microforge is a fully automatic micro glass pressure polishing system for the production of special glass pipette shapes in patch clamp technology.

As a solutions provider, and to complement its product range, flyion also offers the following services that help ensure the company’s products are used efficiently:
· hERG safety analysis of active substances
· Ion channel screening to help discover new active substance candidates
· Creation and characterisation of stably transfixed, inducible cell lines
· Optimisation of assays for automated ion channel screenings

michael.bonin@microarray-facility.comwww.microarray-facility.comThe Microarray Facility at the University of Tübingen specialises most notably in providing services based on Affymetrix GeneChip® technology.
Microarrays have a versatile range of diagnostic uses. The Microarray Facility diagnostic tools include the Roche AmpliChip which has been approved by the US FDA as a tool for in vitro diagnosis to examine 33 different alleles of the cytochrome P450 enzymes 2D6 and 2C19. Doctors can then use the result to adjust the individual dose of drugs where the two enzymes are involved. The Affymetrix CustomSeq® resequencing array, which enables analysis of the CFTR gene, can be used to help diagnose cystic fibrosis, a commonly autosomal recessive hereditary disorder. Oligonucleotide arrays have a number of applications, including genetic coupling or association studies and the detection of chromosomal defects.
