Subitec GmbH

Development and manufacture of sustainable bioproducts made from microalgae

SUBITEC was founded as a spin-off in 2000 by scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB).

The materials’ photosynthetic production takes place in closed bioreactors that must be kept sterile.
These bioreactors are currently land-based, but will in future also be water-based.

SUBITEC GmbH offers a flat panel airlift reactor (FPA) that satisfies the requirements on the commercial mass production of microalgae outdoors. The FPA reactor works on the principle of the airlift loop reactor and, thanks to a low layer density and targeted flow in the reactor over static mixers, achieves the ideal light supply to all algal cells. The types of algae used include: chlorella vulgaris, isochrysis aff. galbana (clone t. iso), haematococcus pluvialis and phaeodactylum triconutum.
