Nexxor GmbH develops so-called "knowledge-oriented information systems" using its proprietary topicWorks technology, which is based on a family of semantic ISO standards. The company, which was established in 2008 by two bioinformaticians and an ecologist, designs software solutions specifically aimed at clients in the life sciences, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

The software systems developed by Nexxor do not just focus on data and documents, but are also able to represent the meaning and context of database content in a flexible and meaningful way, thus making the knowledge of individual members of a cooperative project accessible to all. In addition, the software systems enable independent data sources to be linked.

The technology can for example be used for the administration of a broad range of project data generated by medical, pharmacological, agricultural or ecological studies, but also for substance collections or drug information systems, as well as a broad range of biological, biochemical or physiological relationships. In many areas that use rigidly structured databases for the management of information, the new technology will greatly benefit users thanks to its high degree of flexibility and the large number of access paths that confer meanings.
