Student initiative with the aim of intensifying contacts between universities and industry

The Biotechnologische Studenteninitiative (Biotechnological Student Initiative) was established in 1996 in Cologne with the aim of intensifying contacts between universities and industry. The btS now has offices in 13 university cities, including Stuttgart, and is managed by a national board consisting of 5 members. In addition, the btS has four working groups covering events, Internet, sponsorship and public relations.

The majority of btS members are active students from all disciplines. Students hoping to have a career in the life sciences, doctoral students who are about to start their careers or former students who are already working, all participate in the activities offered by the btS. The btS also works with professors who actively support the initiative with materials, rooms and consultation. An important part of btS is its collaboration with industry representatives, who act as speakers, arrange company visits and provide advertising and sponsoring resources.

In addition, the btS organises evening lectures under the theme "University meets Industry" and arranges company visits as well as organising workshops for its members, panel discussions on current-interest topics and the "ScieCon" partnering fair.

The btS office in Stuttgart works in cooperation with BioRegio STERN to promote the foundation of start-up companies and was also actively involved in organising the 2009 BIOSTAR Congress on Regenerative Biology and Medicine.
The btS meets every other Thursday in the "Unithekle", a pub on the Vaihingen university campus.
