Résumé of First SIG Event

16.07.2012 Résumé of First SIG Event

The first of five Biomat-IN SIG events took place in Nottingham/England at the end of June. BioRegio STERN Management GmbH is one of five partners in this EU-project which focuses on the promising branch of biomaterials. The aim of the SIG event was twofold: first to introduce the various biomaterial clusters and describe specific regional strong points and second, to encourage in-depth discussions among participants. The event was also an excellent opportunity to get together on an international basis and functioned as a forum for Biomat-IN vouchers. Each region sent a key person to Nottingham, choosing someone able to contribute to one of the key topics of the project. BioRegio STERN asked Dr. Heinrich Jehle from Frickenhausen-based GreinerBioOne to be its key opinion leader, inviting him to hold a lecture, lead the ensuing discussion and take part in the following One2One Meeting. At the start of the event, each of the five partners regions gave a presentation to highlight its characteristic features. “The initial short presentations and following key lectures were really good and well worthwhile”, stated Heinrich Jehle. In his opinion, this kind of presentation is ideal for gaining an “overview of what’s happening in the field of biomaterials on a European scale while taking in information on relevant industries and academic research in each of the partner regions”. Jehle described the following discussion round as most worthwhile because it “helped one find one’s bearings” within the Biomat-In project and “encouraged new ideas and other ways of expanding the biomaterials platform”. In fruitful One2One Meetings, Jehle met a variety of representatives from the various partner regions and was able to “discuss future forms of cooperation with potential partners in the field of functional biological surfaces”. He is already looking forward to the second SIG event which will take place on December 3 2012 in Lille, France focussing on “Orthopedics”. On the final day of the recent event, the project managers from all partner regions came together to coordinate their work, discuss the further organisation of Biomat-IN and decide on how promising projects should best be continued.
