18.12.2008 Curetis AG receives EUR 1.4 million Investment
The Swiss company aeris CAPITAL AG has invested EUR 1.4 million in the German molecular diagnostic company Curetis AG. The funding will allow Curetis to continue work on the development of its multiparameter molecular diagnostic platform. Curetis has thus successfully closed its first round of external funding which will increase total financing for Curetis to a total of EUR 2.5 million. At thesame time, the privately held company has named Andreas Boos and Johannes Bacher as Managing Directors. Both bring extensive experience in the development of medical devices gained at previous positions with Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies and Philips Medical Systems.

For three days, from 9 to 11 October, more than 300 scientists from over 20 countries met at the Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart to discuss the current state of research, the latest product developments and therapies for clinical application in regenerative medicine and stem cell research. For the third time, BioStar 2008, a Congress on Regenerative Biology and Medicine – on this occasion in cooperation with the 3rd Annual Congress of the German Society for Stem Cell Research – offered its international audience a unique platform for exchanging information on an interdisciplinary basis.

The press conference held by BioRegio STERN Management GmbH at the opening of the 3rd Congress on Regenerative Biology and Medicine – BioStar 2008 and the 3rd Congress of the German Society for Stem Cell Research on October 9 was dominated by the sensational research results published only shortly beforehand by Prof. Thomas Skutella, Director of the Center for Regenerative Biology and Medicine (ZRM) at University Hospital Tübingen, Germany.

The medical online learning programme by the Tübingen-based E-learning publisher INMEDEA GmbH simulates procedures and situations in different departments of a hospital with their respective typical patient groups – without students, doctors or nursing staff even having to set foot in a clinic.
Simulations are not intended to replace real practical training, but to optimise it with a targeted approach to everyday clinical occurrences.
One of the first to benefit is the German army, which will shortly be using the programme for the remote training of army doctors.

Within the framework of the ‘Clean Energy Power’ trade fair, which took place from 7 to 9 March 2008 at the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, experts presented and discussed the latest figures and information on the subject of bio-energy.

This highly respected specialist, who on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has advised countless biotechnology companies and research institutes and coordinated and supported numerous projects, will now be providing support to companies in the STERN BioRegion in their applications for funding.
